In this Palace Copenhagen Walk we are going on a copenhagen sightseeing tour and visiting an island in the middle of Copenhagen called Slotsholmen, where the copenhagen palace Christiansborg Palace is located. Today Slotsholmen is surrounded by canals, but was actually once a real island, surrounded by water. Now its a great tourist sightseeing denmark tourist attraction. ???? In the 1730s, the first Christiansborg Palace was built.
Christiansborg Palace has a history of more than 800 years as the kingdom's center of power, and today the castle houses several institutions of central importance.
The Danish Parliament has most of the premises at the castle, but the Prime Minister's Office, the Supreme Court and the Royal Representation Rooms are also housed here.
The current Christiansborg Palace is the last in a long line of buildings that have been located on Slotsholmen in Copenhagen.
Christian VI built the first Christiansborg Palace in 1735-45, which, however, burned in 1794.
The cause is said to be a sooty tiled stove
The second Christiansborg was completed in 1828, under Frederik VI, but it also burned, in 1884. This time also the fire occurred in a tiled stove.
The third Christiansborg was built in 1907-28, the foundation stone laid by Frederik VIII, the palace consecrated by Christian VIII.
The third Christiansborg, which is the current one was designed by the architect Thorvald Jørgensen (1867-1946). It was built in neo-baroque style, which at the time was popular especially for public buildings.
The foundation stone was laid in 1907 and granite stones were sent from all the country's parishes for construction. The palace was not completed until 1928.
