Korea's acting president has called for efforts to strengthen national security and prevent a diplomatic vacuum amid North Korea's continual provocations.
During a New Year's meeting, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn said Seoul will work with the international community to counter Pyongyang's nuclear threats.
He added South Korea wants to expand cooperation with countries like the U.S, Japan, China and Russia.
The nation's top diplomat Yun Byung-se told reporters Monday the new year is expected to be a more difficult one than 2016 ... and at least double the amount of diplomatic effort is needed.
In addition to the North Korea factor he cited the incoming Trump administration, which starts work later this month.
