Anji Khad bridge is one of the main significant structure of USBRL- Udhampur - Srinagar - Baramula - Rail - link project ( J&K). It is the FIRST CABLE STAYED RAILWAY BRIDGE of INDIA being built in USBRL project across river Anji Khad. Presently Srinagar and other part of Kashmir valley is only connected with the road network, which many times remains close due to land slide and many other reasons. J&K state is situated to the extreme north of India and a very urgent need was felt to connect this strategically located state through Rail network to the main railway network of the country.
In this video we shall discuss mainly Anji Bridge. It is being constructed over river Anji Khad which is a distributary of river Chenab. The bridge will connect tunnel T2 & T3. The geology of this bridge site is very complex, it comprises of highly fractured and jointed rocks, abrupt change in rock mass, presence of crushed rocks and shear planes. Due to steep slope at Katra end, the possibility of provision of Arch bridge was eliminated, the designer of the Bridge M/S Italferr has suggested and finalized an cable stayed bridge. Since this will be the first cable stayed Railway Bridge in India and no expertise is available in house a group of officer from Norther Railway has visited many cable stayed bridge site at Italy, France and Denmark and collected many important information needed for the successful construction of the bridge. The total span of this bridge is 726 m and main span is 290 m. The height of main pylon is 193m above its pier cap. For construction such a high structure, apart from the specialized design, three main state of art technology which are:
1. Jump form shuttering
2. Tower crane
3. Pump concreting
The jump form shuttering provide a safe working platform along with 3-4 other platform for finishing and other maintenance activity. The shuttering and other platforms are lifted with the help of hydraulic jack system. It provides and extremely good finish with 30% less manpower REQUIREMENT and faster pace of construction.
The tower crane has a long reaching high load carrying capacity along with option of flexible length.
The pump concreting arrangement pumps the finished concrete at the required high elevation.
In year 2002 this project has been declared a National Project and is being monitored by Prime Minister's Office. USBRL project will not only provide an all weather reliable transport system to Kashmir valley but will also play an important role in its socio-economic development. Around 205 Km approach road has been provided through this project which helped in connecting many villages to the road network. Earlier Udhampur - Katra (25 Km) was constructed and opened for rail operation in 2014, Kazigund - Srinagar - Baramula in 2009 and Banihal - Kazigund stretch was opened in 2013. Presently the work is going on in Katra - Banihal section (111 Km) in full swing. After 2014 this project proceeded with significantly fast pace. Out of 111 Km length, 97 Km falls in tunnel (total 27 nos ) and remaining part comprises of bridges.
The schedule completion of this bridge is sept' 2021
