A Danish court has upheld a decision to extend the detention of Chung Yoo-ra - the 20 year old daughter of Choi Soon-sil.
Unless Chung decides to come back to Korea early, she will remain under Danish custody until the end of the month.
During that time, Denmark will process a request from Korea to extradite Chung, after which -- if she's still there -- she'll likely be forced to return to face investigators.
Oh Soo-young fills us in.
It looks like the prodigal daughter of Choi Soon-sil could remain in detention in Denmark until the end of the month before returning to Korea for investigation.
A Danish high court on Monday denied an appeal by twenty-year-old Chung Yoo-ra against a four-week extension of her time in Danish custody.
Chung had been detained the previous day by the Danish authorities for being in the country illegally following a request to Interpol by Korea, where she faces various criminal accusations.
Special investigators in Korea are waiting to question Chung on her allegedly unfair admission to Ewha Womans University, where she is said to have also received preferential treatment.
She is also accused of having received some 18 million U.S. dollars from Samsung Group to put toward her equestrian training.
The Danish court said on Monday that it is waiting for a formal extradition request from Seoul,... and that , once received, it could take two or three weeks to process.
There is some concern about the possibility that Chung could appeal against extradition,... which could delay her return beyond Korea's special investigation period.
However, most experts say there is a good chance that she will decide on an early return.

"She has nothing to gain by extending her stay for twenty or thirty days. If she returns to Korea by the end of the month, there shouldn't be any complications because the special probe can be extended to March, if necessary. "

"Chung has been separated from her child while in detention. Considering that her charges don't appear serious enough to warrant imprisonment, it may be a better option for her, personally, to return to Korea with her child and face the investigation."

Questioned by reporters on Monday, Chung denied any involvement in the allegations against her. Pinning the blame on her mother, she also denied having close ties to President Park.
