I'm not travelling this year. Oh, alright then .. just one more.
Copenhagen actually turned out to be quite a lively place - not what I was expecting considering I'd gone over to see my brother who just moved there. So, info you need is:
-Music all the way through is Hot Chip, who were playing at Vega in the meat packing district. Go there - the acoustics and building rival anywhere you've been before. And yes - ticketswap works. I managed to get them on the day through bandsintown totally checking by chance - as they are one of my favourite bands I was in luck!
-Architecture is stunning. Amazing buildings with green copper everywhere. Look at the drain water running into the street. Seriously! It's leached some of the green metal into the cobbles :)
-Some scenes from Malmo (Sweden). Go there by train for around Euro 10 each way. And don't forget your passport like I did! I have no idea how I wasn't sent back - must be my British charm.
-The multitude of chairs, and cool designer radios etc are from the Design Museum of Denmark. It's in a cool rococo building .. and we discovered I don't actually know what rococo is ..
-Christmas markets. What can I say? They are everywhere ... in December. Get some mulled wine (actually Glogg which has almonds, raisins and rum in addition to the usual version)
-The disgusting food museum was in Malmo. It's very good actually and they have all the things you've heard about but never actually seen before. The maggot cheese from Sardinia, all sorts of rotten shark meat etc etc. Those guys were genuinely sick and my guide was lovely :)
-The ballet shoe Christmas tree was so cool! It was in the King's opera house which is on ... yep .. the King's square. Next to my brothers cocktail bar by the way (Bronnum) - go say hi!
-The stupid looking game is Shuffle ball or something. Play it with some random French guys like I did after plenty of the local (Tuborg) beer. Just order a "classic" to sound like a local.
-Stayed at the Generator youth hostel. It's cheap (for Denmark) at around Euro 25 per night and a very good location. The staff are inconsistent with some rude to the point of absurdity!
-Generally food etc is extremely good if a little expensive. The open sandwiches are called Smorrebrod and as I eat anything, I thought they were all great. I went to the best in town (Domhusets), so go there too
-The people are extremely friendly. I'm not even exaggerating. My brother and I accidentally crashed a couples first tinder date and they didn't seem to mind. Every single person I spoke to ended up having a drink with us, playing shuffle ball or coming out dancing. And considering the guys and girls are a gorgeous as you've been told, that's doubly surprising!
enjoy
