Copenhagen is the capital and largest city of Denmark, built on the islands of Zeeland, Slotsholmen and Amager in the Oresund Strait, which connects the North and Baltic Seas. In the Old Danish language, the name of the city means "harbor for merchants". Copenhagen has a population of 615,993, and together with its suburban areas, its population is about 1.5 million people (2018).
