Denmark Removing Transgender as a Mental Disorder

Denmark is set to be the first country in the world to remove being transgender from a list of mental illnesses. The historic decision is an attempt to put pressure on the World Health Organization, who still classifies transsexualism as a mental disorder. The next step is for the government to submit a formal proposal to change the Health Ministry’s guidelines. While WHO plans to discuss widespread change later this year, Demark’s new ruling will take effect on January 1, 2017.
