On 30 June 2020, the project consortium of Paris Agreement Compatible (PAC) Scenarios for Energy Infrastructure, made up of Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI) and REN21, hosted a joint launch event to highlight two seminal pieces of work.
Firstly, RGI's 'Request to Adapt European Energy Planning Scenarios' was launched. The document united 40 organisations from across the European energy landscape in a call for the inclusion of very high-RES scenarios in more ambitious European energy planning. For more information on the Request, visit: https://renewables-grid.eu/publications/press-releases/detail/news/request-to-adapt-european-energy-planning-scenarios-unites-stakeholders-on-need-for-high-res-energ.html
Secondly, the PAC Scenario was launched by CAN Europe and the EEB. This represents the the first-ever NGO-led energy scenario based on 100% renewable energy, looking at reducing carbon emissions by at least 65% by 2030. The analysis corroborates existing evidence, showing that Europe can achieve climate neutrality by 2040 and lead the rest of the world in the energy transition. Following a presentation by CAN Europe and the EEB, a Q&A and expert panel followed.
