Newcastle of the World is an Alliance between cities around the world that share the same name “Newcastle”. The cities work together to share, inspire and develop projects that promote culture, education, tourism and business.

When the cities met in Shinshiro, October 2018 it was agreed among other initiatives “to raise awareness of the Alliance in Pupils from a young age.” The cities also decided to commence a project called “Learning from other Newcastles” - a school project led by Nyborg in Denmark.

Schools will create a video, which tells a specific story of their country and city.
The purpose is to encourage learning about and between our Newcastles through the creation of videos by students (aged 12 to 18 years). The students decide on the content according to specific guidelines. The videos can contribute to building closer links between our cities by establishing new friendships between pupils/classes across the world. The videos will be released on our new YouTube-channel “Learning from other Newcastles”.

In this video you will learn about the beautiful nature around Shinshiro in Japan. You will discover a lot about the fascinating history which is attached to our Japanese "Newcastle". And have a look at the delicious, chargrilled rice cakes :-)

This movie is filmed by High School students in Shinshiro and produced by the city and Shinshiro International Exchange Association.
