OUR LAST STOP IN SWEDEN: STOCKHOLM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINTER!

We are still in Sweden ???????? most of Simas’ father’s side of the family live in Uppsala, not far from Stockholm. We spent a few days there shortly after visit much of Simas’ mom’s side of the family in Lithuania.
Today, we went to Stockholm with Simas’ cousin Jaunius and his family. Winter and especially January aren’t the warmest of times to visit Sweden but we had to do the most we could do with the little amount of time we had there. Jaunius has lived in Sweden for a while now and works in Stockholm so he knows the city well. He took us to many historic places out there, including the Swedish Royal Palace (Kungliga Slottet) in Gamla Stan, Södermalm, Humlegården in Östermalm, Sergels Torg and Drottninggatan in Norrmalm and of course the smallest street in Scandinavia: Mårten Trotzigs Gränd, among many other places. Even though it was cold, we still had a good time exploring and venturing into places we haven’t been to before. It was a bit much for Avri - we had to buy her mittens and a ski mask like face cover. At the end of the day though, we had a lot of fun!

Before all of that, we had to try some local food as well. Of course, being in a rush, we actually got... McDonald's! Not very local but it was better than the Us version of fast food. It's crazy how widespread McDonald's is - we were thousands of miles from home but we knew what to expect when we got there.

We got to visit Jaunius, Simas’ oldest cousin, and his family. We stayed with him for a few nights but we stayed with Darius on the night of the family get together. He lives in the center of Uppsala, a very nice town that has a little bit of everything.

Yes, we were on a marathon of a trip: New York to Jamaica, then back home to New York, then Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia and Sweden. All within 2 weeks...

Stockholm (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈstɔ̂kː(h)ɔlm] is the capital and most populous urban area of Sweden. 972,647 people live in the municipality, approximately 1.6 million in the urban area, and 2.4 million in the metropolitan area.
