So a couple of weeks ago, the Thai government revealed its 8th brilliant ‘plan’ for a Special Tourist Visa.

This latest one allowing minimum stays of 90 days, extendable to 270 days [just under 9 months]. Don’t get too excited yet.
You see, on closer inspection, the new visa comes with a list of restrictions that
are about as enticing as being forced to dance barefoot on broken glass,

And because ‘This is Thailand’ don’t come even remotely close to what could be considered a return to ‘normal’ tourism in the Kingdom.
Apart from the local 14 day quarantine when you arrive, at your cost, and in a Hotel of the Governments choice, there’s…

Oh wait a minute…

They’ve just changed the rules again - even before the cyber-in could set on this video script, they have now announced that you must do the 2-weeks quarantine in your home country, and avoid all crowded places while doing it.

Okay, back to the news…

The new visa also includes a mountainous list of paperwork that you’ll need to submit before being able to travel to Thailand.

Then there’s, and if you have a weak heart or, high blood pressure, you should probably sit down for what comes next…

The Boffins at Tourism Thailand say all travel to the kingdom can only on chartered flights or via a private jet.

Because of course, all Farang and filthy rich, and own private jets.

I actually have 7 of them – one for each day of the week.

And once they’re out of quarantine, these ultra-wealthy, private jet owning tourists’ options are quite limited.

With destinations favored by the jet set everywhere, such as Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Ko Samui,

mostly closed up with no tours in operation and most tourism-related businesses shuttered.

But let’s not allow a simple thing like that stand in the path of those lovely private jet owning Farang who, considering this is now the eighth announcement,

Must be going simply bonkers due to their fervent desire to tell their manservant,

“Jeeves, I say old chap, pack the bags! Forget Monte Carlo or the South of France,

Forget 5-Star dining in St Barts! I fancy some Pad Thai! So tell the pilot to get the private jet ready! Those poor people in Thailand need our money!

Let’s get there as fast as we can!”

But I Digress…
According to a report in Bangkok Post, Dr Chakrarat Pittayawonganon, a director at the Department of Disease Control,

claims that foreign tourists will have to present proof of a negative Covid-19 test no more than 72 hours prior to travel.

Additionally… “they must also have quarantined in their country of origin, have health insurance for international travel.

and a specified minimum amount of money in their bank account”.

Of course, being that the Jet Set doesn’t like to talk about dirty stuff like the amount of money they have in the bank,

the good doctor wisely failed to indicate how much money. In the bank was needed.

He said they will also need a record of “not visiting crowded places prior to their departure”.
And during their domestic quarantine, these “visitors must have been tested twice for Covid-19 at the beginning and end of the process”.
The Department of Disease Control has also said, broadly, that they will only allow people from “low-risk” countries to enter Thailand first,

without of course, specifying or providing a list of what those countries would be. Because, This is Thailand…

The department says they are also providing specific training for the general public and government officers

“whose jobs place them in contact with foreign travelers”, so these STV tourists can probably expect an extra special socially-distanced and masked welcome.

Meanwhile, the Public Health Ministry has revealed that 2,270 foreign tourists, from China, Myanmar, Japan, and Kuwait,

are already planning to visit Thailand under the provisions of the new Special Tourist Visa.

On September 15, the Thai cabinet agreed to allow in foreign tourists who agree to the mandatory 14-day quarantine with a minimum 90-day stay, extendable twice to a maximum of 270 days.

Many have said they would rather dance on broken glass than visit Thailand under such conditions.

As for me, I eagerly await the highly anticipated 9th Big Plan.

And the 10th

And the 11th

And the 12th

etc. etc. etc.

Oh and the meantime, Thailand is set to arrest thousands of people on Business Visas in the Kingdom who used to employ Thai people and many who used to travel in and out of the Kingdom.

Which of course will make people in their millions line up to start a business in Thailand once all this is done and dusted.

Because there’s Nothing in the world like arresting thousands of innocent foreigners to make people worldwide think, “Wow! I’ve just got to visit the land of smiles!”
