Description:
These iconic blocks have played a part in the development and growth of society for over half a century. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, pretty much all of us around the world know about Legos. These tiny plastic blocks have set the foundation for future engineers, architects, and builders alike. The company started in 1949 and is based in Denmark. The popularity of Legos is so high that the company has branched out into partnerships with major brands, franchises, and movies to make merchandise where consumers can build their favorite product and characters out of the famous blocks. Legos come in all shapes and sizes, and there are people who have made it their careers to build things out of Legos and then write the instructions for home recreation. These people are known as Lego Master Builders, and they make money from literally playing with toys.
The possibilities with Lego are endless. You can create recreations of art, people, buildings, vehicles, animals, and more. There are offices all over the world and there are over 120 employees in the Denmark office alone. Truly, Lego has created their own little world and empire in just a matter of decades. Engineers have even worked on and even tested their own robots used with Lego. How long will it be before these tiny little blocks gain awareness and start taking over our world?
Legos were typically affiliated as a boy toy, but girls are equally into Legos despite the company make “girl friendly” sets to make the opposite gender feel more welcome. Most recently, the popularity of Lego has exploded so much that Hollywood made a movie about the toys called, “The Lego Movie”. The movie featured classic Lego pieces as well as famous characters from cartoons, movies, and comic books. Lego even has six theme parks, games, and competitions, thus creating a thriving sub-culture that is growing with each Lego block that is added to the set. And what is even more amusing about Legos is that fully grown men and women will spend their evenings with Lego blocks after a long work day, and they don’t even think twice about it.
What is neat about Lego blocks is that they are universal and haven’t changed much in their interlocking system. Blocks from the 1950’s can still fit today’s blocks. This means that we have several generations adding on to their Lego collections and giving more of an opportunity to build more complex structures. The creation of the Lego block is complicated, and has to be perfect to the point the blocks lock together seamlessly and can easily be disassembled. Many copycats have come about. They were either sued by Lego for copying their design, or the off brand eventually went out of business due to lack of sales.
Here are some of the most amazing sculptures that have ever been created using Legos. From complex designs to brilliant color schemes, these sculptures prove that there are some pretty brilliant people out there.
