This is the real story behind what is, quite possibly, this century's most famous hamburger. Purchased in the final hours of Iceland's last McDonalds during the recession of 2009, the Hamburger sat forgotten on a shelf for several years. Later, it spent time in Iceland's national museum, before eventually finding its current home on display in Bus Hostel Reykjavik.

For some the burger and fries symbolize Iceland's defeat of unfettered Capitalism. For some it's the embodiment of the myths surrounding McDonald's ingredients and preparation methods. For others, it's just inspiration for what to eat for dinner.

The burger and it's owner have been covered by the world's major news publications. Some of which got the story right, some of which missed the mark.

As luck would have it, I have the pleasure of considering the burger's owner a friend so as part of my interview with Hjörtur Smárason (http://www.ravingravens.com), I asked him to tell the full story behind the burger, his take on it, and to add the context which has been missed in many of the news reports.

So, here's the story of Iceland's last McDonalds meal...a perfectly preserved meal from 2009 which, at the time of this video's posting, is more than 2,300 days old.

You can check out the live stream of the burger here:

This is part of an extended conversation I had with Hjörtur that spans from Byzantium to Iceland’s last McDonald's to questions of ethical travel and modern disasters. Stay tuned for future segments and make sure to subscribe!
