AMAGER STRANDPARK
It has never been so easy for Copenhageners to get to the beach. And so they do. To that extent. Amager Strandpark has become one of Copenhagen's nerve centers during the summer season, but there are activity opportunities all year round.

Just five kilometers from Rådhuspladsen and with three metro stations almost to the first row of dunes is Copenhagen's largest beach and offers water and beach life for all age groups.

The beach in its current form has only existed since 2005, but now that it is here, one may well wonder how Copenhagen has been able to do without.

It is not a beach where you have to seek peace and quiet on the hottest summer days. You can get it out of season or very early in the morning, but in high season the beach park is a place where you swim, soak up the sun, run, bike, kayak, snorkel, try your hand at the activity track underwater, wind and kite surfing, hold picnicking, mushrooming, building sandcastles, watching people, rollerblading, playing beach volleyball, strength training and much, much more.

Fortunately, the beach area is so large that there is room for all the activities. The beach is - like big brother Køge Bugt Strandpark further south - created by building a new beach a little further out than the original coastline, so in this way, you have both an open beach and some protected and child-friendly lagoons.

The bathing establishment Helgoland has been rebuilt in a new, but recognizable version. And the old popular gathering places Femøren and Tiøren look like themselves with concerts and park life.

And if you come on a summer evening, the atmosphere is completely southern with large groups of families and young people who gather, eat and have fun, until long after the first stars have appeared in the sky
