Chile, the world's second largest salmon producer after Norway, has suffered massive losses of the fish due to recent algal growth, threatening jobs and raising new concerns over El Nino, climate change and general health conditions.

Oceanographers are studying whether climate change is contributing to the record bloom of toxic algae in southern Chile, but the true cause remains unconfirmed.
