As an American living in Germany, we've spent many years enjoying Oktoberfest in Munich. After all this time of "Oktoberfesting" in Munich, here's my guide on how to do it right (at least from my perspective ????).
Oktoberfest in Munich is the biggest German festival in the country so there's definitely a method to it's "madness."
In this vlog you'll learn how to get there (on a budget), what to do, how to get in a tent, and which rides you shouldn't bring your iPhone on (whoops ????). If you live in Germany, I recommend taking a train or driving to this German festival. If you have a DD, drive to the Fröttmaning train station near Allianz Arena. You can park there for a full day for only €1 (And €3 for extra days). If you don't have a DD, take the train there and back into Munich Hbf and save yourself hundreds of euro by not getting a hotel (they're crazy expensive during Oktoberfest). If you come in from out of Germany or Bavaria, you can get a hotel (book months or years in advance for cheaper rates), or check out hostels and/or couchsurfer!
Once you get to this German festival, get there early (like 7-9am) if you want to get in the tent, or skip that part and enjoy rides and the parades! There's tons of activity going on throughout the day, so don't feel like you're missing the Oktoberfest action if you're not inside a tent.
At about 3pm, that's when I call it a day, but Oktoberfest literally lasts all night. When the Oktoberfest grounds close, you can find parties still going on all over the city of Munich! Have fun!
