Jazzfest Amsterdam, ‘undoubtedly the best jazz festival in Amsterdam’ (het Parool) is known for its remarkable new combinations of young talents and established names from various directions. Looking forward to the next edition, the BIMHUIS presents a smashing mini-festival with three performances.

‘More or less serious’ is the title of the solo performance of ICP’s core member Ernst Glerum on piano and double bass. Simplicity, individuality and a love for jazz characterize his compositions, which he illustrates with his own videos and drawings, offering insight into his personal world.

A guitarist from the north of Denmark and a oboe player from the south of Spain: they happen to go together remarkably well, perhaps because they’re both from small villages and close musical families. Teis Semey previously played the BIMHUIS with his international band, with which he released the colorful album Throw Stones earlier this year. Maripepa Contraras challenges preconceptions of the oboe: she’s classically trained, but her playing is equally influenced by her Spanish background and her love for Brazilian music.

Jasper Blom, Sean Fasciani and Felix Schlarmann play Stevie Wonder compositions in a jazz line-up with sax, bass and drums. With WonderYears they pay tribute to one of the most creative composers of the 20th century, whose captivating hits and legendary albums have become part of the collective consciousness. Many of his melodies have proven to be perfect for jazz improvisation.
