Imagine being dropped off to spend your day in childcare and having an entire amusement park as your playground. That's what children from some of Copenhagen's newly reopened kindergartens are now getting to experience.

Tivoli Gardens, the world’s second-oldest amusement park, has opened its gates for free to kindergarten children during the coronavirus crisis. The much loved attraction in the heart of Copenhagen is normally the most-visited theme park in Scandinavia and the 5th in Europe but is currently closed to visitors.

The Danish government recently announced that children up to the age of 11 could return to childcare and school, but with special requirements including more space for social distancing and a focus on outdoor learning. Copenhagen is one of Europe's most-densely populated capital cities, so creative ways to spread out the city's children have been found.

Tivoli Gardens, which will celebrate its 176th birthday this August, is hoping to open again to the public sometime in May, but this is not confirmed. In the meantime, it will continue to welcome its special VIPs and contribute to the reopening of Danish society in this innovative way.
