Guðrið Hansdóttir is a Faroese Musician/Artist. Her sound is a mixture between pop/folk and electronic music. Her main instruments are vocals, guitar and flute. She has released 4 solo albums and is also known as the other half of the Faroese Electro Duo called BYRTA.
Guðrið Hansdóttir grew up in Argir near Tórshavn. She is the daughter of Louisa and Hans Carl Hansen. Her father is a well-known musician on the Faroe Islands and he played with the Faroese bands like Straight Ahead and Streingjasúpan. When Guðrið was 14-year old, her father taught her to play the guitar and she started to write her own songs. Later she became a popular singer/songwriter on the Faroe Islands and 2007 she released her debut album ”Love is Dead” and the album was well received by critics .
After her third album Beyond the Grey was released in June 2011 she moved to Reykjavík, Iceland to concentrate fully on music. She performed in various places in Iceland and also toured in Europe and USA. While living in Reykjavík she met Janus Rasmussen (Bloodgroup, Kiasmos) and they started making music together. Guðrið wrote some songs in Faroese, and Janus recorded and produced the songs. The result was a full lenght album which was self-titled BYRTA and was released in June 2013. The band gained huge popularity on the Faroe Islands and the band won three awards at the Faroese Music Awards in March 2014, including Band of the Year and Album of The Year. Guðrið finds inspiration in all from Swedish pop music to 80´s icon Kate Bush. Apart from being an solo artist and member of Byrta, Guðrið is also a member of the Female Vocal Quintet called Kata. The Quintet performes old traditional Faroese songs in modern compositions.
