Live(ish) at SpragueLand Episode 19
Peter Sprague Plays Copenhagen Mist

I remember the day well when Sinne Eeg and I were on tour in northern Denmark. We played a concert in Alborg and the next morning in my hotel room I was dreaming the notes that would soon become “Copenhagen Mist.” It’s pure luck when you get a tune for free and it just needed a little touching up before it became the title track to my latest album.

Should I have called it “Alborg Mist” instead?

Well, to be fair, I spent many eves in Copenhagen walking the streets with the thick Danish overcast in play and it was then that the city vibe I was experiencing matched the mysterious color of my new song.

So “Copenhagen Mist” it is!

For this edition of Live(ish) at SpragueLand we’re zeroing in on the music that me and the boys recorded at the beginning of the pandemic. With the new reality of all gigs getting cancelled our first instinct was to meet up once a week at SpragueLand and record new original songs plus old originals that never got documented. Big fun was had and a new album was launched.

We’ve got “Sequoia” in there telling the tale of tall trees; “Boppy Cartoon” was written in the car on the way up to L.A. and it’s a bebop jam at it’s core; “Kornel Blues” was inspired by Hungarian trumpeter Kornel Fekete-Kovacs; “Cidade Praiana” is samba beach music; and of course we’re including the previous talked about song “Copenhagen Mist” featuring Danish vocalist Sinne Eeg phoning it in from Denmark.

The band includes some of the best with Tripp Sprague on sax, flute, and piano; Mack Leighton on bass; Duncan Moore on drums; Sinne Eeg on vocals; and me on guitar.

Price of admission? Actually the concert is free but we will have a “virtual tip jar” complete with PayPal, Zelle and Venmo info for you to donate whatever you feel good about. Also, old reliable snail mailing checks works too. You folks have been super generous with this and it makes us happy.

A few notes:
You don’t have to watch the show live. The same YouTube link will bring up the recording for you to view anytime.

If you do watch it live (and we recommend this), you can participate in the live chat during the concert as long as you have a YouTube account.

Click here https://youtu.be/MEaCbZ-DlqQ to watch a vid, leading you through the easy process of creating a YouTube account. Maybe do this before the concert begins.

If you do have an account and you're logged in, you can type something fun into the chat box and that’s how we create modern day jazz community in this era of the pandemic. Maybe start with something simple like “Hi, this is Lisa from Wyoming" or “Hi, I’m Reggie from Portland.” By doing this we’ve got an app that will magically take your name and location and drop a pin on a spinning globe. During the show we'll visit all of the listeners and say hi and marvel at your exotic places of residence.  No worries about privacy...How many Lisa's are in the entire state of Wyoming? Or "Reggie's in Portland, Maine?

See you in the mist!

best, Peter
