In US news and current events today, grocery shoppers in Thailand got innovative after the country banned single-use plastic bags.

People shared on social media creative and hilarious ways of carrying
groceries with: traffic cones, handbags, buckets, suitcases, and baskets.

On January 1, 2020 Thailand banned single-use plastic bags at select retailers, with plans to enforce a complete ban by 2021.

In 2015, Thailand produced more than 2M tons of plastic and was found to be the 6th largest contributor of ocean pollution. The Thai government has created a ‘road map’ to use 100% recycled plastic by 2027. In 2019, the Thai government voted to ban micro-beads, cap seals, and exo-degradable plastics. By 2022, the country plans to outlaw styrofoam and plastic bags, straws, and cups.
