Hi Guys Welcome to my channel HAY ON WAY. Today I am going to an old Tavern which is situated on the banks of Hoogly River in Serampore. It is 35 kms away from my place. Its 232 years old building ……..Though Serampore was a Dutch Colony in the 18th Century but this Tavern was built by an Englishman JAMES PARR in 1786 along with the help of Dutch Traders. History says that Mr Parr was already an expert in the hospitality business which brought him to serampore to built this Tavern. This Tavern became a favorite destination among the Europeans that time. Later in the 19th Century it was taken over by the British East India Company. The East India Company had many colonial establishments along both sides of the Hoogly River. As the Hoogly River was a major business route These Banks of the river became a preferred choice for colonial establishments. And in 2015 this tavern was restored by the Govt. Of West Bengal and the National Museum of Denmark. Well the food was average. They serve all types of Indian cuisine, Italian Chinese and authentic Bengali Cuisine like luchi alur dom steam rice polao mutton kosha and bengali’s favorite Fish Fry. It has a strong influence of Denmark too. They have made a special corner for Danish Cuisine. Like the Danish Style chicken roast, Danish Style Chicken Sausage Grilled Fish Fry with lemon & Danish Pastry with ice cream. Initially our plan was to have coffee at the flurys and come back but later we changed our mind and decided to have food at the restaurant. If You want to how the food is I must say its average and the quantity is not that great. If I compare the price of the food I must say its at par with any restaurant at Park Street. Cost For two will be around 1000 to 1200. What I observed while being here at the Tavern is that this place is understaffed and I face many challenges while placing the order. Hardly there are people to take care of you. 4 People managing the rush and they were literally suffocating with the pressure. The service is very slow and the portion is concerning. When they served the coffee the coffee glass seemed white, it does not looked impressive as the drink looked pale and I could hardly taste coffee. Later on request they put little more expresso and serve it again. Just the ambience will not suffice….. you need to make the good food and make the service more appealing. Thats all guys from my end meet you soon in my next video.
