After a successful visit to Ladakh in 2015, We planned for a visit to Belgium, Denmark, Norway and Switzerland in 2016. First we booked Eurail global passes, so that we can use rail network extensively in these countries. We reached Brussels on 22nd July, 2016. We went to Hotel Husa President Park, Brussels for night stay and on 23rd July we left for Oslo via Copenhagen and reached there on 24th July and went to our hotel Citybox, Oslo. Our train crossed the Rendsburg High Bridge over the Kiel Canal on journey from Germany to Denmark.
25th July :
We started our Oslo Sightseeing hop-on-hop-off tour at 10 AM after our breakfast in the hotel from City Hall, Oslo. This Hop-on, Hop-off Bus ticket from City Sightseeing is a great choice to help one to explore the city at its best. We saw a no. of important landmarks from the bus itself:
- Holmenkollbakken is a large ski jumping hill located at Holmenkollen in Oslo, Norway. The observation deck on top of the jump tower offers panoramic views of Oslo.
- We got down at Frogner Park & Vigeland Installation for detailed sightseeing . Frogner Park is a public park located in the West End borough of Frogner in Oslo. There are more than 200 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland in bronze, granite and cast iron.
- The Viking Ship Museum is located on the Bygdøy peninsula in Oslo, Norway.
- The Kon-Tiki Museum exhibits objects from Heyerdahl’s world famous expeditions, the original Kon-Tiki raft, and the papyrus boat Ra II.
- Boat Cruise from the Cruise terminal for about an hour. On this fjord sightseeing tour we pass through narrow sounds, idyllic bays and through a maze of islands with small summer houses.
26th July :
We boarded a train to Myrdal and from there to Flam. We stayed in Flam Youth hostel already booked through www.yha.com.
27th July :
We checked out, left our luggage in the flam train station in the Fjord area. We began our fjord cruise from Flåm sailing through the idyllic Aurlandsfjord, which is also inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Furthermore, the boat continues via Undredal village through the narrow Nærøyfjord before arriving Gudavangen, innermost in the Nærøyfjord. The trip took around four hours to come back to Flam. Collected our luggage and boarded the famous Flam railway towards Bergen via Myrdal. The Flåm Railway has been described as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. At majestic Kjosfossen waterfall. a beautiful woman appeared high up the waterfall from behind a rock, dancing and waving her arms.
We reached Bergen at around 6 PM in the evening and went to our hotel Citybox Bergen, booked through www.booking.com.
28th July :
We visited Ulriken by cable car and Floyen by Funnicular. Then we went to Bryggen. Bryggen has a series of Hanseatic heritage commercial buildings lining up the eastern side of the Vågen harbour. Next we went to world famous fish market of Bryggen and ordered mouthwatering fish and chips.
29th July. :
We took the night train on 28th July to Copenhagen, reached in the morning and went to our hotel Urban House.
After the breakfast, we went to hop-on-hop-off bus stop to see the Copenhagen city and its famous must see attractions. Some of the attractions are Amalienborg Royal Palace, Rosenborg Castle, City Hall Square, the Opera and the Little Mermaid . A 1 hour boat Cruise was also included in our tour. This tour started from Nyhavn . Then we went to Copenhagen’s Famous food market, where all types of world foods are available. We tried some local awesome plates.
30tht July :
After breakfast, first we went to the Amalienborg Royal Palace for detailed visit. Our next stoppage was Christianborg Palace and Church of Our Saviour.
After this isit we went to Copenhagen station to start our journey by train to Lucerne in Switzerland. There was a ferry from Redby in Denmark to Puttagarden , Germany , in which our train was loaded and we crossed the Channel. At Puttagarden the train disembarked from the ship on our journey to Switzerland.
25th July :
